The early photographer catches the light

The golden hour, if you’re a photographer, is not a saccharine radio show hosted by Simon Bates, but the perfect time to catch sunshine through your lens. I was trying very hard to remember this as I was blearily art directing a shoot at 5.15 am recently. The shoot was for Joe Public, and the setting was Jollydays luxury camping in North Yorkshire. Luckily we did get some spectacular light which Paul Fosbury captured brilliantly.

The shoot finished at around 7.30pm, when time was called due to the arrival of a slow roasted ham. (This is not a euphemism – an actual ham arrived). I can thoroughly recommend a stay at Jollydays – far more than I can recommend getting up at 5am.
